From January 3 to 5, 2026, faculty representatives from the College of Economics at Xiamen University traveled to Philadelphia to attend the 2026 Allied Social Science Associations (ASSA) Annual Meeting, where they hosted a reception under the auspices of the American Economic Association (AEA).
The College of Economics consistently prioritizes internationalization. By deepening international academic exchanges and global talent recruitment, it strives to build an internationally influential platform and enhance its global impact and presence. The College remains one of the few Chinese higher education institutions to host a dedicated academic reception at the AEA Annual Meeting for many consecutive years.

At the reception, Professor Xiqian Cai, Associate Dean of the School of Economics at Xiamen University, introduced the College to the attendees. The year 2026 marks the 10th anniversary of the Paula and Gregory Chow Institute for Studies in Economics at Xiamen University. On this occasion, Professor Cai extended a sincere invitation to guests, welcoming alumni and friends who have long supported the College to gather at Xiamen University in 2026 to celebrate the moment, renew friendships, explore cooperation, and discuss future endeavors.

Xiaoyi Han, Nianqing Liu, Chengyuan He, and Kai Li, faculty members of the College, were among the attendees, joined by over a hundred scholars from home and abroad—including visiting professors, Xiamen University alumni, young job market candidates, and colleagues from peer institutions. Participants engaged in in-depth discussions on frontier research, recent advances, and international collaboration in economics, finance, and statistics, a move that further strengthened the international connections, influence, and visibility of the College of Economics at Xiamen University.
The ASSA Annual Meeting is one of the world’s largest social science academic conferences, organized by the American Economic Association (AEA) in conjunction with 64 other related associations, including the American Finance Association (AFA) and the Econometric Society (ES). The College of Economics at Xiamen University places great emphasis on building a high-quality faculty team through its “bring in and send out” talent policy, while extensively engaging in academic exchanges and fostering a vibrant scholarly atmosphere. Today, the College has established itself as a key hub for international academic exchange in economics, with a steadily growing reputation.
